To transform The Grange, our much loved boarding house, into a bespoke and sustainable home for our Sixth Form.
by Sir Roger Manwood's School in Sandwich, Kent, United Kingdom
On the 5th April 2024 we'd raised £16,329 with 81 supporters in 56 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.
The first 8 weeks of this project came to a close on 4th April, but you can still make a donation and 'buy a brick' or put your name on our benefactors' board. Just make a contribution and email me ([email protected]) with the details of what wording you'd like on your brick or on the board. So far we have raised 30% of our target to insulate The Grange, so we are continuing to fundraise to meet our target. David Anderson.
Since the sad closure of boarding at Manwood's, we have used The Grange as the base for our Sixth Form but haven't had the money to make the most of the building's amazing potential. Our video tells you more about how we've been able to set up the Manwood's Future Fund to pay for much of the transformation. The school will commit £1.5m to pay for the structural changes needed to turn dormitories into 7 new classrooms and create 4 study and social areas. But, if we are going to turn The Grange into an amazing home for our Sixth Form, we need your help!
We are starting a year of fundraising events, grant applications and sponsorships to raise the £0.5m we need and our video tells you more about what that money will achieve. For instance, to kit out each room with furniture and IT, we are about to start a room sponsorship scheme, so if that is something that appeals to you, please get in touch (see the contact details below).
The target for this part of our fundraising campaign is to raise the £90,000* we need to pay for the roof to be insulated to modern standards. Insulation will immediately reduce the school's heating bills and it is the crucial first step on the road towards making The Grange our first sustainably heated building**.
So how can you help?
The school is grateful to accept any donation, no matter how large or small. Please consider adding Gift Aid to enable us to add 25% to your donation. If you are thinking of giving a larger amount, we would love to give you the chance to leave a lasting legacy that will become part of the fabric of the modernised Grange (see the details below).
Donate £100 and you can buy an engraved brick that will make up The Grange's new accessibility entrance ramp. Each brick can be engraved with a personal message on 2 lines, with up to 16 characters per line (spaces count as a character). For instance "In loving memory of Ashwin Brown" or "Fred & Jane Able 1991-1997".
Donate £200 and you can buy a square brick with 4 lines of personalised text (16 characters per line), allowing you to say much more. For instance "Henry, Alice and James Harrington who made friends for life here".
Donate £1,000 or more and your name will appear on the beautiful oak benefactors' board that will go above the fireplace in the entrance hall of The Grange.
Once you have donated, please add your personalised message for your brick, or name for the benefactors' board in the comment box or email me with the details (see email address below). Should you wish to donate anonymously or would like to make a larger contribution, please contact me at [email protected]
Thank you for your support with a project that we hope will turn our much-loved boarding house into a truly fantastic home for our Sixth Form.

* we have already received £10,000 towards the £100,000 we need to insulate the enormous roof space in The Grange.
** the Grange has a carbon footprint of around 40 tonnes of carbon emissions a year. A fully sustainable heating system, based on electric heat pumps, will cut our emissions to less than 10 tonnes a year.
All donations are being made to The Manwood's Trust charity which enables us to collect Gift Aid. Their objective is "the advancement of education at Sir Roger Manwood's School".
If we do not raise the total needed to insulate The Grange, the money will be used to develop other capital projects on the school's priority list and to enhance their environmental sustainability.
