Hello and thank you for taking the time to read our Crowdfunding campaign!
Our History - In 2019 The Good Store had plans to be the first organic and plastic-free supermarket in Scotland, huge I know but we tend not to think small. We believed Scotland was in desperate need of a modern, sustainable way to shop that doesn't involve throwing unhealthy food into your baskets because it's on offer. We were one of the first zero-waste stores to open and offer a new way of shopping; refill your pantry staples to avoid single-use plastics, pick from fresh organic ingredients to avoid pesticides and harmful preservatives, and browse through our sustainable ethical lifestyle products, completely plastic-free! In 2021 we saved over 10,000 plastic cleaning bottles from going to landfills from just a select few refill products, imagine how much waste we saved with over 100 refill products in nearly 3 years!
Our plans were to grow as long as people wanted us and the planet needed us.
Now - Despite the pandemic, The Good Store has learned to pivot and has grown its community both in-store and online which has given us the opportunity to include more locally sourced products than ever before. We introduced sustainable Meal Kits and the popular Good Food Boxes. We help to reduce food waste. We reuse containers and boxes received in-store and we recycle responsibly. Our plans are still to grow the business, include more affordable organic and innovative plastic-free products, and support local Scottish suppliers, however, we now need your help.
The Bad - Unfortunately for us, because we are not a Charity or Social Enterprise, we do not qualify for any government funding even though what we are doing directly benefits the government's plans to reduce our Co2 emissions and create a greener Scotland. We self-funded because we believe that this is the future of sustainable shopping, people want a local Good Store, this is the future we want for our children. Climate change is beginning to affect every city, country, and every person around the globe today and we would like to be part of the solution, not part of the problem and you can too. Due to the current financial crisis, inflation, increased supplier costs, and reduced footfall as people wait out the storm we can no longer do it alone, it's time to pivot again.
This is how you can help.
Your donations will go directly into all aspects of the business; product sourcing, sustainability, market research, and helping us to use our skills and knowledge. We want to start 2023 in a stronger position than ever. Helping us to stay open is vital to our community and the wider environment that is Edinburgh, Scotland. If we reach our target and have the opportunity to extend our target we plan to invest in our much-loved plastic-free Meal Kits by re-evaluating the packaging, sourcing local ingredients for new nutritious recipes, and obtaining a more permanent carbon-neutral delivery service. You will be significant in helping to promote a healthier more climate-conscious Scotland in both the food and household product sectors while supporting local suppliers.
Last but not least, you will be contributing towards the UK's very small percentage of Black, Female business owners. In the UK in 2020, only 0.024% of black, female business owners received any investment or funding, That's less than 0.1%.
Thank you
