To provide gardening plots for primary school children to plant and grow their own vegetables and learn about the important role of insects.
We will be working with two local primary schools to introduce children to gardening. The children will work in small groups to develop their own small plots. We provide all the compost, tools, seeds and plants. The children will grow their own vegetables and understand how they must maintain their small gardens.
We will provide an opportunity for children to understand how important insects and bugs are to the garden, and how we provide for them in the grounds. We will demonstrate complimentary planting and show that we do not need to use chemicals on the garden.
We would like children to understand where food comes from, and that is does not all come from the supermarkets. We would like children to understand the real cost of the food they buy in terms of carbon footprint and the wider environment.
We would like children too develop the love of gardening and how this will help the environment. The project will promote teamworking, practical and cognitive skills.
