We'll use this extra funding to create more volunteering opportunities and also opportunities for our community to get involved and engage with our educational and wellbeing activities - reducing isolation and improving healthy living. Any extra funding will make us more resilient to weather this crisis.

We urgently need your support to help one of the finest gardens in England stay open for future generations.

The Garden House has taken the decision, with great regret, to close our gardens as we monitor the current public health situation - but a crisis such as this, and the knock on impact it can have, puts our very existence at risk.

We are very proud of our beautiful Devon garden filled with rare and beautiful plants, looked after by a small and passionate team. However as very small charity, a crisis such as this, and the knock on impact it can have, puts our very existence at risk.

We want to continue to look after the beautiful garden and preserve it for generations to come. We want to be able to continue to share this unique and special place which does so much for bringing the community together, nurturing a love for nature and educating young and old alike.

If you love our beautiful place as much as we do, now is the time to help if you can!

About The Gardens

The house and gardens that form The Garden House were bought in the 1940s by Lionel and Katharine Fortescue. Over the next 40 years the Fortescues created a garden which was – and continues to be – viewed as one of the finest in Britain.

Our Tea Rooms and Events

Our much loved tea rooms provide a great place not just for a tasty cream tea or freshly cooked roast, but for local people to meet, helping reduce isolation in the local community. And - from halloween to bulb sales to theatre - we run a series of interesting local events for families to enjoy which support local businesses.

What we'll do with the money

The money will help us survive this crisis and provide funds for:

  • plant care and garden maintenance
  • Support our student gardeners so they can continue to look after our harden and finish their course
  • Support our visitor garden engagement staff - providing jobs and volunteering opportunities

Please pledge and help us stay open for generations to come.

It's time to come together and help.
