We're still collecting donations

On the 3rd January 2023 we'd raised £3,695 with 29 supporters in 56 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.

The B&D Organisation

With Christmas approaching, our band is raising money in support of the future of the band and the preservation of brass band traditions within Blackburn & Darwen.

The Blackburn & Darwen Band organisation is one of the oldest bands in the country dating back to 1840.  Several years ago we set up our very own Junior Band which is going from strength to strength.

Our Vision

We would love to expand our band and give local children an opportunity to play and enjoy being part of a successful organisation. We believe this would help the mental health and well being of children in our borough.

Almost half of the children in Blackburn are living in poverty according to new data released amidst the cost of living crisis. Data from Loughborough University shows Blackburn has a child poverty rate of 45 per cent, this is the worst rate for a parliamentary district in Lancashire.

Opportunity

We would like to offer free tuition from band members in our bandroom and a free loan of an instrument. This would then give the children a chance to join our  Junior Band and enjoy being part of a successful team. Several members have progressed through the ranks of our Juniors to our Senior Band and some have gone on to play with world class brass bands.

Mental Well Being

We know that mental wellbeing is a big concern right now, and music can boost  the morale of children.

We produce serotonin and adrenaline when we make music together, and these hormones energise and energize us.

Instruments

A lot of our older instruments are now not fit for purpose and this is where we need your help. Donations, however small will help us to purchase some new cornets and tenor horns to inspire the next generation of players.

How you can help us?

Big or small, each donation will be received most gratefully.

Thank you
