Aim: Fundraiser to support the general delivery of the FLAPS Project, volunteer access and essential upkeep for our caravan & bell tent.
We are FLAPS!
FLAPS is a sexual and emotional welfare and specialist support service for nightlife and music festivals, based in Glasgow and operating all over Scotland and the north-west of England. Since our first festival in 2022, we’ve become proud partners with three wonderful grassroots festivals: Hidden Door, Solfest, and Kelburn Garden Party. We provide an open ear, support, and advice at festivals for anyone who has experienced sexual harrassment or assault - or just needs a safe space to reset. We work closely with each festival, both in the lead-up and during the event, to provide essential care and support. We have provided a 24hr on-call service as well as a drop-in space and roaming support, supplied sanitary and wellness products to attendees as well as bystander intervention workshops, consent workshops and day-time activities. 2024/2025 has seen a further expansion into nightlife, working closely with Glasgow based DJ collective Femme 45 as safe space reps as well as The Barrowlands, Corto Alto and CC Blooms. Our mission is to unify welfare, first aid, and festival staff under one shared goal: supporting your right to party with respect, dignity and safety.
We are a grassroots, peer-led community group currently funded solely through donations, fundraising and events. While we’re actively working behind the scenes to secure long-term funding, we need your help to keep the service going in the meantime!
This crowd funder aims to raise vital funds to support three key areas of the delivery of our project: Upkeep, Training, and our Volunteer Access Fund.
UPKEEP
Our beautiful pink caravan, our beloved mobile FLAPS HQ, needs some TLC! We’re talking rewiring, new flooring, and mains-powered lighting to make the space fully functional, cosy, and welcoming for attendees. The caravan has served us brilliantly since we first began working from it in 2023, but now it’s time to future-proof it so it can continue supporting festivals for years to come.
Our bell tent also needs some weatherproofing and minor repairs, and our cushions and décor could use a little FLAPS love. To make all this happen, we need funds for materials, travel, and labour.
TRAINING
FLAPS is an ever-growing, ever-evolving project. By accessing a diverse range of training opportunities, we can continue to expand our services and ensure we’re offering the highest standard of care and safeguarding to everyone who attends music festivals.
We’ve got our ears to the ground for training opportunities offered by brilliant organisations that will strengthen our volunteer's toolkit. These include but are not limited to: anti-racism training & mental health first aid.
We prioritise training for our entire volunteer team within the FLAPS budget, empowering everyone involved in the project to grow together.
VOLUNTEER ACCESS FUND
FLAPS is committed to democratising access to all our training and development opportunities. We believe that no one should be excluded due to financial barriers. This fund will support volunteers on low incomes or who are unwaged by covering the costs of travel and meals for training sessions and solidarity meet-ups. This fund will also subsidise our pink cladded boiler suit uniforms for new volunteers.
While our goals and ambitions for FLAPS are limitless, we’ve set this crowdfunder target at £1,000. This will cover essential repairs and access costs, with the rest set aside for a future training fund.
If you’ve made it this far, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for reading! Everything FLAPS has achieved so far has been made possible by the incredible support we’ve received from our community. We are deeply grateful for your consideration in donating to our project, and we hope to see you in a field this summer and beyond!
Thankyou for reading.

TESTIMONIALS
"2025 will be the third year we have been working with Flaps at Solfest. Music Festivals can sometimes be an overwhelming environment, attracting a plethora of people from many different backgrounds. Having a team of trained professionals on site offering support for anyone that has experienced sexual harassment/violence or just needing a safe space to chill is an invaluable addition to our welfare area.
The feedback that we have received from the general public in regards to the Safe Space they provide has been really encouraging and we will continue to work with Flaps for years to come.
In addition to the above the FLAPs team have helped in the ongoing development of our Safer Spaces Campaign and our Adult and Child safeguarding policies for the Festival.
FLAPS are an asset to any event or organisation that has the pleasure of working with them."
- Adrian, Solfest General Manager
"I joined FLAPS late 2023 and started working during the summer of 2024. I joined because I felt there was a gap in welfare at festivals and events for those specifically harmed by sexual assault at these places as this is something that is so common and not spoke about enough. But FLAPS has been so much more than that, it brings so much joy and education to people at the festival and I believe makes people feel safe and potentially also acts as a deterrent for those wanting to take advantage of vulnerable people as they know the event takes that seriously. I love being part of FLAPS and bringing joy to people with our tent and outfits and also making people feel very safe and seen, my experiences with FLAPS has also made me feel better equipped to keep myself safe at festivals and be better ay asking for help if I need it."
- Peach, FLAPS Volunteer
"The FLAPS Project bring something very special to Hidden Door – the wellbeing, safety and happiness of our volunteers, staff, artists and visitors is so important, and with the wonderful team at F.L.A.P.S we know we are in excellent hands. I can’t imagine Hidden Door without them. Their work is vital – and they do it with such enthusiasm, joy and inclusivity."
- Hazel, Hidden Door Festival Director
"I joined FLAPS in 2024 after meeting some of the roaming team at Kelburn in 2023. As someone who loves festivals and connecting with new people, it felt like the perfect opportunity to help create safer, more welcoming spaces where everyone can enjoy themselves. Since joining, I’ve met an inspiring group of passionate, committed folk who truly care about what they do. Being part of the project has helped me grow massively in confidence, and I’ve had the chance to work at a range of festivals and gigs. Along the way, I’ve also made some amazing new friends!"
- Beth, FLAPS Volunteer
"I joined flaps after attending a festival and using the space. I had recently come out of a very crazy and tumultuous relationship and ended up having a long chat with a couple of flaps about it. I felt so heard and so safe that I knew it was something I wanted to be a part of and provide by others. Since joining flaps I’ve never experienced anything but welcoming, empathetic people who are so much fun and kind! I’ve always seen flaps as that listening, empathetic and impartial ear that we all need sometimes in life and I really value being a part of this."
