Aim

To tell the story of Dumbarton Rock through its climbers, its history, community, and unmistakably Scottish character.

I’m Ewan Grant, a freelance photographer and filmmaker based in Glasgow, working under Edge Photography.

Over the last few years, Dumbarton Rock has become a huge part of my life. It’s where I climb, where I photograph, and where I’ve met a lot of people who’ve shaped how I think about the outdoors, creativity, and community.

This project feels like a way of giving something back. The aim is to make a documentary that captures Dumby as it really is; the climbers who’ve been there for decades, the characters who give the place its personality, the history baked into the rock, and the newer generation finding their own relationship with it. It’s not a film about grades or ego. It’s about culture, memory, and how a scrappy lump of volcanic rock can mean so much to so many people.

Any money raised will go straight into making the film properly:
• time and travel to film interviews and segments with climbers past and present
• equipment hire
• sound mix, colour grade and post-production
• music licensing, archiving older footage, and finishing the film to a high standard
• promotion and festival submissions so it actually gets seen

I’m making this because Dumby deserves more than a throwaway edit or a hype reel. With a bit of support, I want to make something honest, well-crafted, and lasting. A film that reflects how special this place is to the people who know it best and show off to the world why Scotland is an attractive climbing venue for the routes, the people who put them up and its unique beautiful character.
