The Critic

Aim

A rising playwright becomes obsessed with winning a critic’s approval, risking losing the person who loved his work before anyone else did.

We are a final year film crew at the University of Portsmouth looking to raise money for our graduate short film.

Our 15 minute film will follow a rising playwright, Leo, who dreams of becoming a celebrated artist, but when his first major play is brutally torn apart by The Critic, he becomes obsessively determined to create the perfect play. But in doing so, he pushes away Maya, the woman who has supported him every single moment. His perfect play earns the approval of The Critic, Leo gets the validation he wanted, only to realise Maya has left to live her life. Faced with one final opportunity to choose between his career and the person he loves, Leo must choose: Career or Love.

The money raised will solely go towards our film, for example, it will allow us to secure locations, props, costumes, actors, film festivals and so forth. The whole team is grateful for any donation, big or small.
