A Personal Story: Creating a Safe Space for All
When I was 12 years old, I sat by my grandmother’s side, listening to her stories of India before and during the Partition.
She spoke about resilience, survival, and the sacrifices made to rebuild after losing everything. She had witnessed history unfold before her eyes, yet as she aged, her world began to disappear before ours.
She developed dementia, and as her vision and hearing declined, she lost the ability to connect with the world around her. She was still the same person inside, but the world stopped recognizing her. She didn’t speak English fluently and was trapped in a system that didn’t understand her or prioritize her needs.
She was not a burden - but the system made her one.
For the last years of her life, she was misunderstood, isolated, and stripped of her independence—not because of her mind, but because she could no longer see and hear clearly.
That’s when I realized that vision loss isn’t just an individual struggle’s, it’s a loss of identity, dignity, and connection. That experience shaped me and led me into clinical eye care, research, and innovation.

We want to be the first to launch the UK’s first clinical trial on contrast sensitivity in visual dementia, using the GUILT Test (Gradual Understanding in Light & Tone).
Why Contrast Sensitivity?
• Visual dementia doesn’t start with blindness, it starts with small, unnoticed changes in contrast perception.
• People struggle to see movement, edges, and depth long before they notice actual vision loss.
• By tracking contrast sensitivity early and regularly, we can detect cognitive changes before they worsen. Our Goal:
