The Bungalow Project is to bring a commercial venue into community ownership and to protect its historic legacy for future generations

Who We Are

We are local people involved in the local music scene who want to do more than simply put Bands on a stage. 

What We Want To Do

The aim of our project is to bring a commercial venue (The Bungalow) into community ownership and to protect its history legacy for future generations. It will be a place for under 18s to see bands and perform on stage. To do this we have set up a CIC (Community Interest Company 633407)

Our objective is to do three things:

Tell the history and the story of The Bungalow and ensure that it remains a part of the culture and musical heritage of Paisley.

Develop The Bungalow as a tourist destination attracting visitors from far and wide.

Have a music venue with a social purpose with all profits going back into the company to support its primary aims and interests which is:

• Supporting grassroots music by giving new, young and up and coming bands a platform to play.
• Providing free and affordable music workshops for local people.
• Offering training for potential sound engineers, bookers, promoters, cashiers, stage managers, security personnel and light engineers.
• Giving entry level musicians experience by supporting established acts.
• To take risks with our music and arts programme, and that risk taking will be mainly helping artists by giving support, exposure and an audience. This will have a significant impact on the promotion of new music and in turn the general health of the music industry.
• To offer opportunities for volunteers.
• To offer an entry point for people who might be performing their first ever show, which is hugely important both to the aspirations of people in our local community and the music industry at large.
• To programme over 250 live music events per year, providing opportunities for more than 450 micro-businesses (bands)

Our Profits Will Go To:

Support grassroots music by giving new, young and up and coming bands a platform to play.

Providing free and affordable music workshops for local people.

Offering training for potential sound engineers, bookers, promoters, cashiers, stage managers, security personnel and light engineers.

Giving entry level musicians experience by supporting established acts.

Our Thoughts

Having an entry point for people who might be performing their first ever show is hugely important both to the aspirations of people in our local community and the music industry at large.

We believe that even if someone only performs one show ever, it might be a huge part of their life that they get to stand up and perform a song they’ve written. And that’s how the music industry makes its money; by people walking onto a stage for the first time, deciding they like it and then making a career for themselves.

Our Partners

We will work with local music charity Loud n Proud to run classes and courses designed to nurture talent and promote hands-on learning in music and related subjects.

Our learning and participation programme has been designed to be inspiring, accessible and a real introduction to the music industry. We offer a wide range of activities for all ages and tastes, suitable for everyone regardless of experience or ability.

History of The Bungalow

The Bungalow which was a small venue at the bottom of Renfrew Road Paisley. During the 70’s and 80’s this small unassuming bar became famous and reached legendary status when it attracted such big names as The Fall, The Skids, Annie Lennox and The Tourists, Orange juice, Roddy Frame, Tenpole Tudor, The Buzzcocks, Echo and the Bunnymen, Aztec Camera, The Teardrop Explodes, Simple Minds, and Souxie and the Banshees.

It is a story that has become local folklore and put Paisley on the music map of Britain. Apart from the big names, The Bungalow Bar provided countless young aspiring bands the opportunity to perform in front of a very demanding audience. Up and coming bands cut their teeth there and more established bands came to play and take in the exceptional atmosphere that this small venue in Paisley created.

When the bar shut down and changed name a group of local Paisley musicians set out to relocate The Bungalow to Shuttle Street where it now is to keep the ethos and history of the venue alive.  

John Dingwall of The Daily Record said:

“For me, gigs by post-punk acts, such as the Associates and Psychedelic Furs, at Paisley’s Bungalow, easily rubs shoulders with The Rolling Stones at the Stade de France in Paris or Macca in Mexico”  

The Money Will Be Spent On

A range of musical instruments for young people to access.

A PA system with FOH speakers 5 monitor speakers and digital desk.

Range of microphones for drums, vocals and instruments.

Full back-line to include 2 guitar amps, bass amp, drum kit and keyboard 

Stage lights.
