Aim
Please help us to hold space for mothers to share their birth stories in creative and empowering ways.
Why it matters
At the Sacred Birth Centre, we believe every birth story matters. Yet right now, 1 in 3 women in the UK describe their birth experience as traumatic. We know it doesn’t have to be this way.
That’s why we are launching the Birth Stories Project, a powerful movement to bring birth stories into the light, to create healing, and to push for change in the maternity system.
Our Birth Stories Project invites mothers and families to safely share their experiences, regardless of when they birthed or whether there story is positive, challenging or transformative. By collecting and sharing these stories, we can break the silence around birth trauma, build awareness, and advocate for better, more compassionate maternity care.
What we're doing
Through safe, creative workshops and online gatherings, mothers will be invited to share their stories, whether joyful, challenging, or transformative. Together we will:
- Create spaces of healing where stories can be expressed through words, art, and community.
- Curate a public exhibition in Spring 2026 so these voices are seen and honoured.
- Publish a book of Birth Stories to provide an ongoing resource for parents and all those interested in creating better birth experiences.
- Using what we learn to advocate for more compassionate, respectful maternity care.

- £10 – provides art materials for one mother to explore and express her birth story safely.
- £50 - covers the cost of one mother attending a creative workshop, including facilitation, venue, and support.
- £100 – Supports the advocacy work of the birth centre.
- £250 – funds the creation of an online Birth Stories workshop, opening access to mothers and families further afield.
- £500 – helps curate the Birth Stories and Visions for Change exhibition, ensuring stories are seen and honoured by the wider community.
- £1,000 – supports the design and publication of the Birth Stories book, preserving these voices in a lasting form.
