Barry Hines was a Barnsley-born writer, who penned one of the most iconic novels in living memory - a Kestrel for a Knave. ‘Kes’ is known to people of all ages, all over the world and the reason why he deserves the best accolade we can give him for his services to literature. His townsfolk are raising funds to commemorate him with a statue featuring young Billy Casper and his kestrel, which would be placed in the heart of Barry’s homeland.
Barry was an inspirational teacher in and out of the classroom and many authors who came after him claim him as a massive influence. We think a sculpture in honour of Barry is a magnificent way to celebrate him and will encourage generations to aim high, reach for the stars and catch them, as Barry himself did. We need £53,000 from Crowdfunder to help towards creating this wonderful monument, designed and made by master-sculptor Graham Ibbeson.
Please help us by donating - and be part of this fitting tribute to a great writer, a great talent - and a great man.
