The Art House Sheffield

Our Charity

The Art House is a vibrant community hub open to everybody in Sheffield. We support human wholeness by inspiring and empowering people to improve their wellbeing through creative activities.

We set up in 2015 after an extensive building project to create an exciting arts hub in the middle of Sheffield city center providing an incredible Pottery, Art Room and Gallery that supports those living with mental health conditions within the city.

Our professional Pottery Studios are spread over two floors both in the original Victorian building and extensive 2015 new build. Our well resourced Art Rooms allow us to deliver art classes, workshops and courses where the work can be exhibited in the Gallery alongside local and international artists.

The Gallery recently exhibited artwork by our Autistic Wellbeing group which was amazing and inspiring, and really well received. Our Pottery Wellbeing group are now working with local professional artist, Tom J Newell, and will be a part of his exhibition in September 2022, showing how collaboration and inclusion can be captured and inspired within the Arts.

Our Wellbeing Classes

Art is a great healer - it allows our participants to find ways of building confidence through creativity, learning new skills, and understanding that trial and error allows you to move forward. Although art is self-absorbent, it needs collaboration and discussion which organically builds ways to communicate verbally as well as visually. This enables our participants to move into society and create their own futures.

Our Challenges

We survived the pandemic! Now we have to rebuild and secure the future of The Art House.

As an organisation it has been difficult to start again after lockdown. The new funding landscape means competition for grants is greater with smaller funding pots available.

Our Vision

To Develop and Secure the Future of The Art House.

By reconfiguring the space, we can expand our creative offer and open up new funding routes. This will allow us to take on and support more participants and secure our future.

How are we going to do this?

Print Room: We want to create a new, fully resourced print room that will allow us to generate new income streams from community classes, workshops and memberships - this will help us to financially build back from lock-down, and enable us to provide more places on our Wellbeing program, as well as new creative skill building for those already with us.

Gallery: We want to improve the gallery space so that we are able to deliver an international exhibition program that integrates with local artists as well as our wellbeing participants. We have already spoken to artists around the world and created an exciting exhibition program for the next 12 months, which includes more shows from our Wellbeing groups, as well as a Summer Exhibition 2023 for everyone to get involved with.

Entrance / Reception: We want to improve our customer experience by placing the entrance on the Carver Street and use a currently unused space as a reception area. This will allow us to be more public facing and be seen from the main street to increase awareness and footfall. We want to be more open and welcoming, and build our volunteering scheme.

Securing our Future:

Our charity's aims, combined with our new vision to expand and develop the art and creative classes, will enable us to secure our future as well become a part of the city's creative and cultural offering.
