We are raising money to fund mentoring, therapy, stabilisation activities and counselling sessions for our beneficiaries.

by Joseph Logan in Sheffield, England, United Kingdom

The funds we raise will be used to provide counselling, stabilisation activities, mentoring and therapy sessions for the homeless and vulnerable people we support.

The Archer Project has given homeless and vulnerable in Sheffield and the wider region the tools to rebuild their lives for over 25 years. We ensure that appropriate support and aid are given to the people in our society who need it the most. Our history, reputation and close ties to the community mean that we are trusted throughout Sheffield by those who come to us for help and those who choose to support us. Our Project supports homeless and vulnerable individuals in our community to build new lives with value by having stable housing, good physical and mental health, and, ultimately, paid employment.

Trauma and homelessness are intertwined. There has been extensive research into the prevalence of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) in homeless people. As Michael Liu argues in his report on ACEs, 'ACE exposure is almost universal among adults experiencing homelessness'. Addressing trauma and learning coping mechanisms are integral to breaking the cycle of homelessness.

Through conversations with our beneficiaries and staff, we know that therapy and other meaningful activities are integral for the people we support to understand and live with the trauma they have experienced. The trauma our beneficiaries have experienced is abhorrent, but through working with mental health professionals as well as our support team, the people we support can work through coping mechanisms while building fulfilling and happy lives.

By supporting us now, the British Airways fund will match any donation up to £250, this matched funding will be monumental for the stability of our beneficiaries.
