In a herd of horses, no-one is left behind and the wellbeing of everyone is important.
In May 2020 I (Becci) was deeply moved by a documentary demonstrating the impact Covid-19 was having on the NHS.
I saw firsthand the severity of the crisis they were dealing with, the impossible decisions staff were having to make, and the impact it was having on their health and wellbeing.
These were normal people, like you and me, suddenly having to deal with a abnormal situation.
Some 20+ months down the line, friends in the NHS tell me they and their colleagues are exhausted, morale is low, the pressure is immense, their mental health is suffering, the future is uncertain and the pandemic is a long way from over.
It is time to help.
I have grown up with horses. They have seen me through some of my toughest times. They ground me daily and no matter how difficult my life is, they remind me that I've got this, I can do it and to stay present.
With the help of some wonderful colleagues, I would like to gift a series of Thank You days with horses to NHS staff. In them, we will treat them with the respect and gratitude they deserve, provide a safe space for them to be fully present, support them to activate their rest and relax systems, show them how to go about their day from this calm space, share some useful tools to improve their leadership and communication skills and provide 1:1 horse time for them to fully be authentic, without judgement, with how they are.
How you can help
We need funding to run these days. By contributing to this crowdfunder, you'll be supporting us to provide a safe space, refreshments and lunches and a contribution towards the venue and the costs of the horses (the facilitators are gifting their time for free).
I want show that we, as a community care about those that are tirelessly working on the front line right now, give them something nice to look forwards to and restore their spirits and faith in humanity.
Why horses?
Horses are the masters of calm. Grounded in the present moment and with large nervous systems to provide emotional co-regulation, horses facilitate a return to wholeness through their gentle, grounded presence.
Through facilitated sessions with horses, people are able to release stuck emotions and re-find their sense of self, improving mental, emotional and physical health.
They also for many hold a magical quality that evokes the senses and ignites the spirit.
By gifting these sessions to NHS staff, we, as a community show that we care about them, their wellbeing and that we want them to be well.
These sessions will be provided by qualified and experienced Equine Assisted professionals in partnership with one of our local NHS trusts.
