Aim
An excellent coach is hard to find, difficult to part with and impossible to forget. Our swimmers opportunity to say thank you.
An excellent coach is hard to find, difficult to part with and impossible to forget. So many of us were shocked, saddened and upset when Glenn's contract with RASCALS ended.
This is our swimmers opportunity to say thank you and raise money for a gift to remember us by. Not that he will forget any one of you, I know that.
Glen began swimming for RASCALS at 5 years old. His love of the sport and his Club saw him become their Swim Teacher at the age of 16 and he began coaching two years later. He was promoted to Head Coach ten years ago in 2011.
There have been so many memories and proud moments. He is proud of every single swimmer. Every swimmer that competed in a Gala. Every swimmer that made it to a County Final. A club swimmer reaching Nationals. Every League success. Ripley Swimming Club, RASCALS, a small Derbyshire Club promoted to the Premier Division of the National Arena League.
Ripley are, by far, the largest talent pool to feed into the elite pathway for Derbyshire, Derventio Excel. That speaks volumes.
We really hope to see Glenn again poolside soon. Please help smashing this target to give Glenn a send off that he deserves. He did not want to leave.
Below are just a few memories and messages I have been inundated with.
I will make sure he gets them all.
‘I have known Glenn since I was 8 years old and joined Ripley Rascals. I had passion and enthusiasm but was un-co ordinated and my technique wasn’t great. I had previously been in learn to swim and had no experience competing. Glenn took me under his wing. He made me feel like I could do anything I put my mind to. Not only did he show me the basics in honing my technique and learning how to use my long arms and legs but he made me believe in myself. For me this is what made the difference. With his support I just blossomed. The reason is simple, he cares and is a great teacher.
I know that without him I would not be performing at the level I am right now. It is as simple as that. This is what makes a truly great coach. Someone who makes you believe anything is possible, who supports you, listens to you, who tells it to you straight and you know always has your back. Glenn has a natural ability to connect with swimmers and above all else make it fun. Stream line challenge, bleep test, Saturday morning relay races are all some of my happiest memories of swimming thanks to you.
Thank you for being my supporter, mentor and friend, for the hours of letting me ask you questions about swimming and having the patience to listen and take an interest in not only me as a swimmer but as a person.
Ripley will not be the same without you my friend, you are a wonderful coach and person! Be very proud of what you have achieved and the difference you have made. The swimming world is a better place for having you in it ! - Jay
