by Jennifer Newall in Glasgow, , United Kingdom

We're still collecting donations

On the 2nd February 2023 we'd raised £7,689 with 41 supporters in 139 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.

1674066242_climatechangeeducationcaravan_crowdfunder_pres_(11).jpgWe are delighted to have been accepted as part of the Glasgow Climate Challenge with matched funding to hit the remainder of our target - that means every donation from now will be matched by Glasgow City Council - Up to £10,000! Meaning your donations will go double the distance :)

And the project is in the mix to be selected as a finalist and receive a bonus cash injection to support the project - up to an additional £5000! Every pledge helps - however much you can afford to give :)

STORIES OF GLASGOW

Glasgow has a wonderfully rich history of leading world change and we want to continue that legacy by sharing 'Stories of Glasgow'

The science is absolutely clear, we HAVE to take action if we want a thriving future…
But it isn’t science that will get us out of this Climate Emergency. That needs us to come together and act. And that US NEEDS YOU!

Community Climate Action is required to make the change needed for a liveable future. Stories of Glasgow is about growing our communities and sharing stories to empower climate action at every level.

We are inviting schools, community groups and businesses across the greater Glasgow area to create their own Story Tree - a place to connect with nature, self, each other & our rich culture. A place to share your stories past, present and future:

  • Past - to continue Glasgow’s legacy of leading change we need to understand our history in all its pain and glory. By connecting with our history, our culture, the stories of our past we can learn and grow from it.
  • Present - share what you are doing now and how people can get involved and support you. Raise awareness of issues that require our community to care and take collective action, and celebrate your successes.
  • Future - this is arguably the most important story to share through your story tree - how can we work towards a thriving future if we have not imagined what that world looks like? That is why we invite you to co-create your picture of a thriving future (in your area/community) and share it with the world so we can collectively work towards making this vision our reality.

Each story tree will contribute to a map of 100+ story trees across the Glasgow area. Ahead of the UCI World Bike Champs coming to Glasgow in August we will create a ‘treasure hunt’ of Glasgow’s story trees to be explored by bike, foot, skateboard - anything that gets as many of us as possible enjoying Active Travel.

And by the time the world once again comes to Glasgow for the UCI World Champs we will share our stories, inviting the world to join us.

By the end of this project we will have grown our connectedness and unearthed our collective purpose to take action on the climate emergency.
We will have a vision for the future we are collectively working towards and we will have grown the strength in our communities to do that work together.
Most importantly we will have had fun - being creative as we create our ‘Story Trees’, exploring our city and its many wonderful stories, having a big bike party as we host the World Champs - and have invited the world to join us.

Help us build togetherness and share stories for climate action here in Glasgow, focussed around our youth and helping them to connect with youth around the world, connect with nature, and connect with their cultures - all whilst growing participation in cycling and active travel.

Change starts here. A donation to this crowdfunder project is an investment for a thriving, sustainable future. We hope you feel the potential of this project as much as we do. And we look forward to working with you and your community as we - together, as the people of Glasgow - work to make this vision our reality this year.

Together we CAN Save Our Species (this is an SOS!)
