To turn food waste into healthy soil through vermicomposting, reducing landfill waste and supporting regenerative agriculture.
Hi, I'm Didi, founder of Terravore.
Terravore started with a worm bin in our garden. Every week, my grandma and I would look after the worms together, feeding them our household food scraps and watching them transform waste into rich, healthy compost. What began as a small family routine soon grew when I started collecting food waste from neighbours as well, gradually realising the potential of worms to help tackle a much bigger problem. This experience led me to ask a simple question: why are we sending valuable nutrients to landfill when our soils desperately need them?
Every year, huge amounts of food waste end up in landfill, where they produce methane, a powerful greenhouse gas. At the same time, farmers and growers are facing increasing challenges around soil health, fertility and sustainability. I created Terravore to help solve both problems at once.
Terravore turns food waste into nutrient-rich vermicompost using composting worms. Rather than treating food waste as something to be disposed of, we see it as a valuable resource that can be returned to the soil to support healthy plants, thriving ecosystems, and regenerative farming.
Alongside running Terravore, I am currently completing an MSc in Environmental Management, where I am researching soil health, nutrient recovery and sustainable waste management. This allows me to combine scientific research with practical, real-world solutions.
Although Terravore is still a young business, we are already working with farms and growing sites across Hertfordshire to trial vermicomposting systems and explore new ways of closing the food waste loop. Partnerships with organisations such as Wild Farm, Soil Squad and Tewin Greens are helping us turn ideas into action.
Our vision is to build a network of farms, businesses and communities that work together to turn food waste into healthy soil. We want to help reduce landfill waste, lower methane emissions, improve soil health and support more resilient local food systems.
The funds raised will help us secure the equipment, insurance, compliance requirements and operational space needed to grow. They will also support farm trials, laboratory testing, educational workshops and the infrastructure required to collect and process more food waste.
Every contribution helps us move one step closer to a future where food waste is no longer wasted, and healthy soil becomes the foundation of a more sustainable food system.
Thank you for supporting Terravore and helping us close the food waste loop naturally.
