"Breaking Barriers: Tennis Able Serves Up Inclusive Tennis for All Abilities"

by Durlings Tennis Tournament in Aid of Tennis Able Norwich in Norwich, Norfolk, United Kingdom

 New stretch target

We really want to deliver as many planned sessions as possible in the year. The more funds we raise, the more sessions we can deliver, and the more lives we can change and impact for the better.

The sessions we run for special schools and SEN classes are usually provided free of charge. School sport budgets are incredibly tight, and tennis sessions make a huge, very positive impact.

We run groups outside school hours as subsidised sessions. We provide regular sessions without asking players to pay monthly subscriptions. Players pay as they play. For players with complex needs, this is really important because regular attendance is not always possible due to their particular health issues.

We’d far rather that players enjoy playing, and come to play when they can. We don't want anyone to worry about having to pay up front when we are very aware that their health challenges might prevent them from attending for several weeks at a time.

Why are we crowdfunding?

Tennis Able is an award-winning non-profit organisation specialising in inclusive tennis programmes for players of all abilities. It is led by Derek Perry, a renowned tennis coach with more than a decade of experience in coaching inclusive tennis. Tennis Able offers inclusive tennis at the East Anglia Tennis & Squash Club in Norwich, as well as at various schools, colleges and charities around Norfolk.  Tennis Able provides coaching sessions for players with different impairments, such as Down's syndrome, learning or physical disabilities including wheelchair users and for players with mental health issues. Their objective is to help players improve their playing ability, fitness, confidence, and social skills through the sport of tennis.

How we’ll spend the money raised

Tennis Able is a not-for-profit organisation. While we receive some funding from our partners, the Norfolk Lawn Tennis Association (NLTA) & Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), we rely on additional funding and essential sponsorship to run our sessions. Some of the organisations and schools we work with contribute to costs, however all our sessions are available for free or at a nominal, highly subsidised rate. Funding makes an immediate and very direct, positive impact. With your funding we can help people become tennis players and achieve things neither they, nor their families, ever thought possible.

Community impact

Over the last year we have worked with more than 120 different players aged between 8 and 65+, from players with learning issues and full mobility, to those requiring complex care and help to hold a tennis racket. We can work on an individual basis and also with partner organisations and schools.  We don’t just teach people how to play tennis: Tennis Able players come off court having gained huge volumes of confidence and self-belief.
