Aim: This project is a new initiative to bring the fast-paced, inclusive sport of handball to Tempo, Co Fermanagh.
Tempo Community Association is a rural, volunteer-led organisation based in Tempo, Co. Fermanagh. Our core mission is to deliver and enable sport and physical activity as a way to improve health, wellbeing, and community life. From youth sport to older adult activities, we provide opportunities for all ages and abilities to get involved, get active, and stay connected.
We are passionate about creating opportunities for everyone — regardless of age, gender, or ability — to participate in meaningful physical activity within their own community. The Tempo Community Handball Project is our latest initiative and reflects our commitment to inclusive, grassroots sport provision.
We are crowdfunding to launch and deliver the Tempo Community Handball Project — an exciting, inclusive programme that will bring GAA handball to our rural community for the first time.
Our aim is to raise £10,000, with £5,000 from public donations and £5,000 match funding from Sport NI’s ‘Creating Opportunities’ programme. This funding will help us:
This project is a new initiative for Tempo Community Association and represents our first structured handball programme in the village. Currently, we do not offer any handball activities, making this a completely new sporting opportunity for our community. The project will introduce handball through beginner sessions, school outreach, and inclusive community programmes targeting underrepresented groups. It differs from our ongoing activities, which focus mainly on general community engagement and non-sporting events. This investment will enable us to diversify our physical activity provision, build local volunteer capacity, and promote sustainable sport participation where none currently exists.Item

The Tempo Community Handball Project will create inclusive, accessible opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to get active locally. It specifically targets underrepresented groups — including women, young people, older adults, and those with disabilities — removing cost, transport, and confidence barriers. By training local volunteers and delivering tailored sessions, we will foster long-term engagement in sport, strengthen community connections, and ensure everyone has a fair chance to participate, regardless of background or ability.
The Tempo Community Handball Project is about more than sport — it’s about opportunity, inclusion, and wellbeing. Our rural area lacks accessible and diverse sports provision, and this project will help us reach:
This project will improve mental health, physical wellbeing, and social inclusion across the community — and build a long-lasting culture of participation through new local coaches and volunteers.
Our handball wall will also be a multi-use resource for schools, youth groups, and other local initiatives — creating long-term community benefit.
The Tempo Community Handball Project will be led by Tempo Community Association, with delivery overseen by our Sports Development Coordinator and a team of trained local volunteers. We will also partner with qualified GAA Handball coaches to ensure safe, inclusive, and high-quality sessions. The Association will manage all planning, scheduling, and community engagement, while supporting coach and volunteer development to build long-term capacity and ensure sustainability beyond the life of the project.
The Tempo Community Handball Project will run over a 12-week period, beginning in September 2025 and concluding by December 2025, with sessions delivered weekly and additional workshops for volunteers and schools throughout.
There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.
1. Make a pledge. Don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success!
2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.
