The first coffee roastery in the UK staffed by young people with learning disabilities, providing work experience & employment opportunity
There is no other coffee roastery in the UK where the beans are roasted and packaged by young people with learning disabilities. Help us be the first.
We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to feel valued, be included as members of society, and reach their full potential. We support young people with learning disabilities to gain the necessary skills to find work, and benefit from the self-worth that comes with employment.
But COVID-19 is having a significant and lasting impact on the futures of young people with learning disabilities.
Many of our partnered employers have been hard hit by the pandemic and are currently unable to offer work experience and job opportunities.
In response, we have forged a fantastic new relationship with a Brighton-based coffee roastery. Here, young people learn to roast and package coffee, as well as other transferrable employability skills. Not only do they gain unparalleled work experience, but they also continue to access their invaluable support network.
There is an opportunity for Team Domenica to start an enterprise of our own; roasting, packaging and selling our own coffee. Our aim is to become self-sufficient in this enterprise so that we can guarantee work experience to our young people. The funding we are seeking will go towards the start up costs of this enterprise, the important bit: the cost of the beans!
"A lot of people don't take disabled people seriously, they think we are useless, but that is not true. Many of us are unemployed and our families have to support us… But you can help make a difference."
