30 students from Littlehampton will be running an educational activity week in two Roma Gypsy villages. This is our 8th trip.
For the last 16 years students from Littlehampton, one of the most deprived parts of the south of England, have been traveling to others nations to teach lessons, learn about themselves and different cultures.
They have to raise there own funds via lots of different ways. The work they will be doing is running an education and creative activity week in two Roma Gypsy villages for children and young people.
The communities face many challenges including housing, food, access to fresh water and sanitation and good accessible education.
Due to there Roma background they face a lot of prejudice and discrimination within their own country. We work along side local partners, who work and live, in the villages and have long and strong relationships with the children, young people and families.
Several of the the students from The Littlehampton Academy are themselves from disadvantaged back grounds but have had the courage to apply and be successful to get on the team. They are working hard with varying success at raising the £1000 each that covers all the costs to travel, run the week. The money raised will be used as match funding to inspire them to raise at least half.
This will be our 8th trip over 16 years with so many students telling the story, on return, of the difference the experience has made to them in their out look on life and how to understand and, advocate for, other cultures and communities. We are grateful for any support we receive.
