Team Jak now support nearly 400 families across Scotland and this number is growing ...
Aim: Jak's Den is a safe, warm, clean space that children, young people and their family and friends can receive support on their cancer journey.
Team Jak was created at the request of inspirational teenager Jak Trueman following his own journey with childhood cancer.
Inspired by Jak’s dreams, we provide emotional, social and emotional support to children and young people with cancer, aged 0–25, as well as their families, friends and those bereaved.
We provide individual support through Jak’s Den and outreach to hospitals and homes using group, family and 1:1 support.
Childhood cancer is isolating for the whole family, normal activities can come to a halt to minimise the risk of infection. Jak's Den provides not only a space to come and receive support from staff, volunteers and others going through the same journey but somewhere to have a little bit of normal and a little bit of fun.
Our children and young people, and their families and friends, can come to Jak’s Den during opening hours, or by appointment at any other time.
We have drop-in sessions, music therapy, counselling, pamper days, alternative therapies, activity days including cake decorating, puppet making, magic shows, teen days (including Xbox and PS4 challenges) arts and crafts, coffee mornings, bespoke support groups for all, homework support and much more.
We also provide outreach services to homes and hospitals for children and families unable to visit a Den.
As the cost of living crisis hits everyone, Team Jak are finding our costs increasing and families are facing increased expenditure at an already challenging time. The money raised will help to fund our Friday lunch club and our Tuesday afternoon sessions that give parents a chance to relax and chat while their little ones play.
Both of these sessions provide a warm safe space for families, on a Friday ensuring all familiy members are able to have a meal and on Tuesday a warm drink and snacks.
By supporting this project you will be Creating Smiles and Easing the Journey for children with cancer.
