Team ACE’s aim is to renovate a overgrown area into a colourful community garden. We also want to raise awareness of mental health.
Our aim is to create a community garden within Bath that supports and raises awareness of mental wellbeing by providing a space for relaxation and enjoyment at Widcombe Social Club. We would be working alongside the mental health charity Headlight.
We have been offered a small location behind Widcombe Social Club which is currently out of use due to being overgrown. This area looks over onto the canal and could easily be transformed into a serene and idyllic garden. We are confident that our team of 13 young people are willing to put in the required effort and time to do this.
Widcombe Social Club is a community hub within Bath hosting events all year round such as musical gigs, fitness classes and parties amongst many other things. The close-knit feel of this club, therefore, seemed perfect for our project, embodying the ideals of our groups’ aim.
Whilst refurbishing the garden area for Widcombe social club itself and for their personal use, we want to make a space that will help to contribute to the mental health of the visitors by providing a calm and relaxing space to escape to. By working with Headlight we hope to make a space that will achieve this while also raising awareness for the mental health charity. We have plenty of space for seating meaning lots of people can comfortably enjoy the garden whilst also being a space for families to enjoy together.
We have many creative ideas for this garden and wish to implement a blue and yellow theme in honour of Headlight’s main colours.
The following list entails our other possible ideas:
Seating areas (benches)
Raised beds containing flowers and herbs
A potential rope swing (?)
A painted mural on the largest wall
A wildlife area
Of course our ideas depend on our fundraising capabilities and the space we will have for the garden. We are hoping to expand on these ideas if we are able.
During the process of our project, we have plans to make a film for our chosen charity, Headlight. This will help to raise awareness and promote the charity as a whole.
We have already contacted Labour councillor for Bath, Joe Rayment who is willing to support our cause and following on from this, we hope to provide a high quality amount of social media coverage and publicity for all parties involved.
Finally, we would like to thank you for reading this proposal and taking the time to support us as a group.
