Aim

I am seeking funding to help cover the costs of going to america to study timber framing for tiny houses.

My aim is to set up a project building small mobile dwellings for land based organisations, teaching women and non- binary folks in the process. This will provide an alternative to traditional carpentry training routes that are male dominated and oftentimes inaccessible.

In order to be the best teacher and facilitator I can be I applied to the Port Townsend School of Woodworks 8 week timber framing for tiny houses course and received a partial scholarship. I have exhausted other avenues of funding to help cover the remaining fees plus housing and flights, and am looking to the community to help me achieve this goal!

Doing this course would not only be a massive game changer in my career and for this project, but in my personal life offer me a fresh start. The last year of my life has been overwhelmingly difficult and whilst my health and wellbeing are slowly improving, I am left with the trauma of what happened, whilst dealing with homelessness and the insecurity of being a freelancer.

This fundraiser would allow me the space to continue prioritising my wellbeing and recovery, and support a project that would help to provide another route to get womxn into carpentry.

I go into a little more depth in the video if you want to learn more, but I do talk about SA and suicide.

In the event that additional funds are raised, or that I will save a significant amount in the next 3 months, any funds not put towards the course will be saved for setting up the project.

Thankyou!
