We did it
On 7th February 2020 we successfully raised £11,746 ( + est. £2227.00 Gift Aid ) with 565 supporters in 56 days

We are running a parliamentary reception, launching a bill to get our Teach the Future campaign to transform education into UK policy.

 New stretch target

Originally we asked for £4,000 to cover a parliamentary reception to engage new MPs, the cost of the room hire has now been increased to £7,200 so we have increased our target.

Additionally we have decided to create a Climate Emergency Education bill, the cost of drafting this will be £2,400 bringing our total to £9,600.

We are raising for an additional £1,600 to cover travel and hotel costs for the reception.

  • In February 2019, the UK Student Climate Network organised the first Youth Strike 4 Climate, since then our movement has grown rapidly.

One of our key aims is to reform the education system in response to the climate crisis and ecological emergency.

Our Teach the Future campaign calls on government to introduce six key changes to our education system to prepare students for the climate emergency and ecological crisis. Our six demands are:

  • A government-commissioned review into how the whole of the English formal education system is preparing students for the climate emergency and ecological crisis.
  • Inclusion of the climate emergency and ecological crisis in English teacher standards.
  • An English Climate Emergency Education Act.
  • A national climate emergency youth voice grant fund.
  • A national Youth Climate Endowment Fund.
  • All new state-funded educational buildings should be net-zero from 2020; all existing state-funded educational buildings net-zero by 2030.

Teach the Future is a youth-led campaign to urgently repurpose the entire education system around the climate emergency and ecological crisis. The campaign is run in partnership by UKSCN and SOS-UK, NUS' sustainability charity.

It’s not good enough that sustainability is restricted to a few subjects and that most of our teachers and lecturers don’t know enough about it. Our education system must teach the truth and prepare us for the future, because we are the future.

We need our elected leaders to take our demands seriously and engage in meaningful action in response to the climate crisis and ecological emergency.

Teach the Future is a student-led campaign, supported by adults, without any funding. The funding raised through this will make a real difference and could massively affect UK policy.
