Help save Taylors Covered Buttons, a unique West End shop run by Maureen Rose, serving London for 100+ years with on-the-spot button making.
Hello, I’m Maureen Rose, proud proprietor of Taylors Covered Buttons & Belts — a small but iconic shop in London’s West End. This business has been serving the community for over 100 years, and I’ve personally had the joy of running it for more than 50 years, with the occasional help of my son and a close friend.
Our shop is the last of its kind — a place where you can walk in and have buttons covered while you wait, or find the perfect button to make your garment truly special.
Over the decades, we’ve supplied buttons and belts to some remarkable people — from the current King and Queen, Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and Margaret Thatcher to countless film, theatre, and TV productions. Our little shop has quietly supported Saville Row, the creative industries and served generations of makers, all from a site once home to Charles Dickens himself.
But now we are at risk.
During the Covid-19 lockdowns, we were forced to close for many months. This led to £17,000 in unpaid rent. Our landlord is now pursuing court action and will not renew our lease unless this is paid in full. Without help, Taylors Buttons will close forever this November.
We are appealing for support in two ways:
1. Awareness – to help highlight the cultural and historic loss London faces if we are forced to shut.
2. Your Kind Donations – to help raise the £17,000 needed to save the shop.
Taylors Buttons is more than a business — it’s a one of a kind living piece of West End heritage.
