Aim: Former Leicester Tigers rugby player Taylor Gough needs a customised canoe to help achieve his target of competing at the Paralympics 2028

Who are we?

Restart, the "Player's Charity", is the official charity of the Rugby Players Association, supporting current and former elite male and female rugby players who have experienced serious injury, illness and hardship.

This support ranges from funding rehabilitation and disability assistance to helping with the cost of essential equipment or home modifications. Additionally, we assist players with expenses related to long-term or ongoing medical treatment. Since 2005, the charity has delivered over £2 million to support players and their families when they need it most.

Why are we crowdfunding for Taylor?

Leicester Tigers forward Taylor Gough was an incredibly talented young rugby player with an exciting career ahead of him. Life changed for him in an instant after a car crash left him paralysed from the waist down.

After a long period of recovery and rehabilitation, aided in that period by Restart, Taylor began to play sport again: wheelchair rugby and wheelchair basketball. More recently he has been competing as a para-canoeist and has made such rapid progress that he has been selected for the Great Britain team, to compete at the upcoming European Championships.

Taylor has recently been honoured by rugby's governing bodies as well as English players from across the game, with receipt of the RPA Blyth Spirit Award, which recognises individuals who have shown remarkable courage in the face of adversity.

His aim now is to make the Para-Canoe World Championships squad later this year and ultimately, to compete for Great Britain at the Paralympic Games in Los Angeles, 2028. To have a chance to do so he need to purchase a customised canoe for upcoming qualifying competions. That's where you come in... !

How we’ll spend the money raised

We will create a restricted fund for Taylor's canoe, in the hope that we can help him raise enough money to purchase a boat that meets the strict criteria needed to compete at the highest level in elite para-canoeing.

Any surplus funds will then be used to support Restart's wider work in assisting current and former rugby players, in times of need.

Impact

Taylor's journey this far has been nothing short of inspirational and offers hope to anyone who experiences a major life-changing injury. His courage and resilience has allowed him to rebuild his life and aim to achieve new goals.

Your support can help him achieve his dream of competing in LA for Great Britain.

How you can play your part

There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.

1. Make a donation. Don’t delay if you’re going to support Taylor because momentum is key to his chance of purchasing a competition ready boat in time for the upcoming championships!

2. Spread the word. Share Taylor's project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.

3. Offer rewards. Get involved if you are a local business by donating things we can offer to our Restart supporters. We will give you a shout out!

4. Support Restart and the work we do for players when they need us most.
