Aim

The aim of this project is to develop junior squash in the Tavistock and West Devon area.

About our club:

Tavistock Squash Club possesses two squash courts and has a membership of around 300. We have 3 teams who play in the Plymouth Company's league and attract a diverse membership from all walks of life. Our junior section is small, but is growing and this is a key area for us to develop.

Positive Impact of this Project:

The intention of the project is to attract back existing players and encourage new juniors to join form the West Devon area. We would also like to offer a wider junior activity programme, such as after school clubs, holiday squash camps etc. It is hoped that funds will allow the club to purchase equipment and promotional materials to target local schools and other community groups, in the hope that more juniors will take up the sport of squash (especially girls). The new equipment will allow new juniors to play with next to nothing cost, thus reducing any barriers to participation based on socio-economic backgrounds - we want to develop further our inclusive policy.

The effect of COVID 19

Tavistock Squash Club has a developing junior section which has now been hit by the closure of the club during the Covid-19 pandemic. We are hoping to use the funds to re-launch the junior academy, thereby attracting back existing juniors and attracting new players via taster sessions and 'give it a go' sessions.

How the money will overcome this problem:

The purpose of this project is to use funds to re-engage our juniors to play squash and to promote the junior section in the local community, so as to attract new players to the club. We are planning to use the marketing materials to help us to deliver effective and engaging school assemblies and also taster sessions to allow young people to try our sport and our club. We are also hoping to run summer camps and holiday clubs for the juniors who would like to play squash. We are hoping to link with other organisations to share resources and facilities, therefore giving juniors a wider sporting experience e.g. Tavistock Hockey Club. The sessions planned will also be educational thus helping our community's1593601183_img_5938.jpg youngsters to catch up with some of the education missed during lockdown.
