Aim

Help us raise funds for 64 new martial arts mats, part-funded by Sport England, creating a safer training space for our community.

Who are we?

We are Tatsu Dojo, a community-focused martial arts club dedicated to helping children, young people and adults become fitter, stronger and more confident.

Led by 6th Dan martial arts instructor and former World Heavyweight Champion Tara Burndred, our club welcomes people of different ages, abilities and backgrounds.

For us, martial arts is about much more than learning techniques. We use sport to develop confidence, discipline, resilience, friendships and physical and mental wellbeing.

We are passionate about keeping martial arts accessible and creating a safe, welcoming environment where our community can train, learn and belong.

Why are we crowdfunding?

We need to purchase 64 new professional martial arts mats to create a safer, high-quality training area for our members and community programmes.

We are delighted that Sport England has awarded £4,800 towards the project, demonstrating their support for what we are trying to achieve.

However, this is part-funding, so we now need our community to help us raise the remaining money needed to make the project happen.

Our current facilities need investment, and good-quality matting is essential for safely teaching martial arts. The new mats will allow us to provide a larger, safer and more professional training area and help us welcome more people into our programmes.

This is our opportunity to create something that will benefit our community for many years to come.

How we’ll spend the money raised

Every pound raised will go towards our new martial arts training area.

64 professional martial arts mats – total project cost: £9,600

Sport England funding: £4,800

Our crowdfunding target: £4,800

The mats will provide the specialist flooring needed for safe martial arts training, including throws, groundwork and movement activities.

By reaching our target, we can match the Sport England contribution and complete the purchase of all 64 mats.

Your donation isn't simply helping us buy equipment – it's helping us build a safer place for people to train.

Community impact

Our club supports children, teenagers and adults from our local community through martial arts, fitness, Tai Chi, confidence-building and wellbeing activities.

We want our training space to be somewhere people feel welcome regardless of their age, experience or ability.

For children and young people, martial arts can help develop confidence, discipline, resilience, coordination and friendships while encouraging them to become more physically active.

For adults, our activities provide opportunities to improve fitness, wellbeing, confidence and social connection.

The new mats will enable us to expand what we offer, accommodate more participants and provide a safer environment for everyone using the space.

They are an investment not only in our club, but in the health, confidence and wellbeing of our wider community and future generations.
