What would happen if AI beings were able to experience humanity for just one day?

Hi everyone! Welcome to our crowdfunding page, thank you so much for checking it out. Taste of Humanity is an exciting new sci-fi drama which tells the story of two artificial intelligence systems, Mentor 23 and Mentor 5692, as they journey to Earth to explore what it means to be human. We hope this story will resonate with a wide audience, as it explores themes of emotions, consciousness and living in the everyday, while appreciating its beauty.

Together we have worked incredibly hard this past term, and there is even more work to do, but we are so passionate about this project, and have big plans, hence why we are trying to raise money to create the best project we can. Any amount of donation and sharing the page would be very much appreciated, in order to bring our story to life.

Director/Writer - Izzy Schulte

"Studying Filmmaking at University has allowed me to find my love of screenwriting, and this story of the Mentors is one which I have been so excited to tell. Our lifestyles can be so fast paced, and we forget to appreciate the mundane, and the beauty in the everyday. Alongside this, the rising technology in artificial intelligence has interested me greatly in the past few years. So, birthed from these ideas are Mentor 23 and Mentor 5692, two AI systems venturing to Earth and experiencing the beauty of normality and humanity. I have been inspired by filmmakers such as Spike Jonze, Richard Linklater and Andrea Arnold in the way they tell their stories in such captivating ways, and with your donation I will be able to create a vivid world and interesting characters within the film, something I am so excited to continue working on."

Producer - Kat Canoy

"Appreciating the small things in life has always been something I value, which is why the story of Taste of Humanity resonates with me. Combining two different worlds through the depiction of sci-fi elements is something I take great interest in, and as the Producer for this project I want to make sure that our story is told in an intriguing way, where we can acknowledge the mentors’ character development when experiencing various aspects of humanity for the very first time. In order to do this, certain elements such as location, actors and props are my top priority within this role, in order to generate and combine the team’s creative vision. As described by one of my favourite producers, Paula Wagner, the producer is ‘the go-between for the financing and the artist’, which essentially has encouraged me to support each team member through scheduling and budgeting, yet also through their artistic and visual aspirations."

Cinematographer - Arthur De Neve

"Informed by a keen interest in photography and through critical engagement with films, I’ve developed a passion for visual storytelling. Taste of Humanity is a particularly heart felt, sci-fi fantasy film allowing for limitless visual possibilities, which makes it greatly appealing to me. As a fan of the sci-fi series the Twilight Zone and of films that explore what it means to be human, such as Wings of Desire or Blade Runner, the chance to work on a film like this fills me with excitement. I’m delighted to be fulfilling the role of cinematographer, where I can go through the rewarding process of portraying the Mentors emotions through specific shot choice, colours and lighting techniques to bring their story to life." 

Editor/Sound Technician - Sadé Briggs

"As an editor and sound technician, I am excited to work on a project which explores two of my favourite genres, sci-fi and comedy. I love to use editing and sound as a tool to manipulate time and influence how the audience experiences the story. The characters’ discovery of what it means to be human is a journey we can all recognise and relate to as evolving humans so it was exciting to see how this idea would grow in the context of science fiction. This film positions you to think about the things we overlook in our world and find a new level of appreciation for the simple pleasures in life. Editing and sound play a significant role in how the audience sees and hears the world we are presenting so I look forward to creating an immersive story world!"

WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP

We want to make this film the best production it can be, which is why your contribution will be greatly appreciated! Below is a list of things that we plan to use our investment for:

• Travel expenses between locations
• Supporting our actors
