In addition to expanding the railway line we are looking to set up a heritage museum...
To improve leisure facilities in the Torrington and North Devon area by extending and improving our heritage line to allow trains to run
WHO ARE WE ?
We are a volunteer charity of approximately 150 members with 20-30 regularly on site working to extend the line from Torrington towards Bideford and being available to answer any questions from visitors and passers by on the Tarka Trail.
We are a friendly sociable group who want to remain active, using the skills we have learned, pick up new skills, make new friends whilst at the same time doing something for the community.
WHAT ARE WE DOING ?
Our work is broken down into phases - as Rome wasn't built in a day neither will we be able to reach Bideford overnight - but our current phase involves laying track to the first over-bridge, installing Point-work and a siding to enable trains to run along the track and ensuring we maintain safe access for all users to the Tarka Trail running alongside the track
Any monies raised will go towards the purchase of Point-work and laying of track.
WHY ARE WE DOING THIS ?
Responses to our community questionnaire indicated there was a desire for such an attraction, so we are providing what the community requested. We believe community support is very important to such a project.
