Who we are
Since 2016, Tap Social Movement has brewed, baked, and run community venues to help turn lives around. Creating training and employment opportunities for prisoners and prison leavers is at the heart of everything we do, and our brewery, bakery, and five hospitality venues are exciting hubs of employment and innovation. With your help, 2024 will be the launchpad onto even greater things.
Some good news!
This year we’re proud to have earned the ‘Purposeful Business Award’ at the annual Oxfordshire Business Awards and ‘Best Community Food Endeavour’ at the Ox in a Box Food Awards, and we were shortlisted for ‘Consumer-Facing Social Enterprise of the Year’ at the nationwide Social Enterprise UK Awards 2023. Our brewery has won several medals at the annual SIBA Independent Beer Awards, too.
Why what Tap Social is doing is so important
We are privileged to be able to have a real impact on the lives of those who need a helping hand to turn things around. To quote from just a couple of members of our team, past and present:
“I know I’ve got people on my side, and that makes me step up… I could never repay Tap for what they’ve helped me gain … It’s not often you’re going to come across a group of people who want to help like that. If they can grow, believe me, it will only be positive.”
“It was a little bit difficult at first, coming from being by yourself and being in a cell 23 hours a day, to learning to communicate and be in a crowd. Working here has helped me build a social network, which I never really had before. Most of all, I feel like I have a sense of structure in my life. There’s many, many things this job has done for me: I’d be here for ages if I was to try and give you all of it.”
To date, with the help of you, our wonderful supporters, we have been able to have these life changing impacts on the lives of individuals, and we have created over 80,000 hours of meaningful, paid employment (that’s over 38 years of full time work!) for some of the most disadvantaged people in our communities, helping them to re-engage with work after prison and escape the cycle of reoffending.
Over 500 people have been touched by our programmes and among those who’ve worked with us, reoffending rates are one tenth of the national average - benefiting individuals, reducing victims of crime, building more resilient and compassionate communities and saving taxpayer money.
Please support us to do this work
The need for our life-changing intervention has never been greater and the time is right for us to ask you to continue to support us in our mission. The twin storms of COVID-19 and the cost of living crisis have put enormous strain on the hospitality industry, and our exciting plans for the future need your support to enable us to bring them to life.
Your pledge will allow us to unlock the next crucial growth stages for Tap Social, bringing exciting new and inclusive products to new and wider audiences, building on the success of our amazing bakery team, and investing in our sales people to ensure we can continue turning many more lives around for many years to come.
Physical products ordered before 17 December have been shipped. All products ordered after then will be shipped shortly after the campaign ends on 10 January, 2024.
