Aim of the project is to create a mobile application that will enable our community schedule listening calls and communicate in a safe space
Think back to a time in your life when you were experiencing emotional distress but felt you could not confide in your friends or family due to lack of empathy, fear of judgement or the negative mental health stigma. Talley anonymously connects you to everyday people, like you and I, who have experienced the same life challenges and are well-equipped to help. Talley is for you and I to benefit from and give back to the universe.
Join us in building an on-demand platform that will allow our users empathy-based, peer to peer, listening sessions with people who have gone through our training process. Talley listeners are emphatic and supportive, whilst drawing upon their own experiences. We connect people to vetted listeners who have experienced similar journeys, whilst being mindful of each individual’s unique situation. Reaching our stretch target will allow us to work on promoting TalleyTalk conversations, a weekly interactive anonymous virtual call that occurs every Saturday at 11 am BST. Each week TalleyTalk introduces a new mental health topic and our members share their personal experiences on how it has impacted their mental health. Past topics have included ‘Workplace Anxiety, ‘The Bright Side of Self Isolation’ and ‘Co-dependency: The Saviour Complex’. These calls are open to everyone who wishes to listen or contribute. Any extra funds will go into funding the next feature releases for our mobile app.

When we go through challenging life situations, we often find ourselves alone; even in the most bubbly environments. Sometimes, sharing our thoughts or problems with family or friends can be a struggle, for various reasons including fear of judgement, fear that they may not be able to relate or empathise, fear that the issue may have been over-flogged or fear of starting another argument or dispute. Some people equally do not seek professional help as they do not consider themselves as having emotional or worthy mental issues. We have found that sometimes people just need a space to be heard or to gain clarity without being advised on what to do.

W.H.O defines mental health as a “state of well-being whereby individuals recognize their abilities, are able to cope with the normal stresses of life, work productively and fruitfully, and make a contribution to their communities. Mental health is about enhancing competencies of individuals and communities and enabling them to achieve their self-determined goals”. Given the rise in situations which impact mental well-being, it is estimated that 1 in 4 persons in the UK will experience a form of mental health problem every year (Mind.Org, UK).
Therefore, at Talley we focus on peer to peer talking therapy delivered with empathy, dealing with those everyday challenges that could potentially lead to much bigger problems if left unchecked. Our listening service offers anonymity, confidentiality and impartial peer to peer support by creating a safe space. We are the first port of call, if required, our listeners are able to signpost you to other services or to mental health professionals on our platform. Listening empathetically allows our listeners to really hear and understand what is being said. It also makes it easier for the other person to feel they can talk freely without being judged.
