To have a fully working sailing ship for people to enjoy and learn the operation of a barque under full sail, both able and disable persons
Hello, The Lord Nelson is a 3 masted barque built in 1985 the first tall ship in the world designed with wheelchair access to accommodate personnel of all physical abilities to sail alongside the ship’s crew. Includes accessible toilets, a speaking compass, braille and power-assisted bridge. Enable people of all physical disabilities including Wheelchair users, to be onboard and sail side-by-side on equal terms.
The ship needs a refit and bringing back into service keeping her the largest tall ship in the UK.
With your help to Dry dock and Survey the bottom, Antifouling and maintenance. Replacement of all the Navigation equipment, AIS, Radar and GPS, chart plotters etc. Replacing the power generators, rebuild of the main engines and full service, repairs to the deck and woodwork, replace 6 liferaft and 2 inflatable tenders with outboard motors. Safety equipment GMDASS, Life jackets and anything required to keeping this vessel sailing.
Your help and funding will completely go into bringing this ship sailing again. All crew and helpers are volunteers.
