Rhona's Rooms

About us

Hi, I'm Charlotte and I am here crowd funding for my small business, Rhona's Rooms rehearsal studios. We have been hub for local musicians, bands, solo artists, music teachers and more for nearly 3 decades, and now we are looking to the future.

My Dad was in a rock band back in the 80's with his friends. Rehearsing in garages, living rooms and garden sheds until 1966 when he bought a small farm in Kings Langley Hertfordshire. There, he built a small studio in the stable block where his band could jam to their hearts content. Soon his friends in the music scene wanted to borrow his studio so often that my Mum, Rhona, suggested they add more rooms and she would make a business of it. She quit her job in her patents cafe where she had worked for 27 years, and made a full time go of it. Soon she had a thriving business of local musicians who found the studios through word of mouth alone. All these years later, many of those musicians still come to the studios today.

My Mum ran the studios for nearly 30 years making countless friends and creating a community of musicians who loved the laid back atmosphere and personal touch she added to the business.

Sadly, my Mum passed away quite suddenly in 2023. Her passing was truly devastating and the future of Rhona's was unclear. Having just had my first baby, I felt heartbroken to lose my Mum and knew we couldn't lose Rhona's too. I quit my job as a HR Director and threw myself into rejuvenating the business. I am so proud that this female found business is now in the hands of the next generation of female leadership.Rhona and Pete

Why are we crowd funding

After nearly 3 decades, the business is now in need of attention to ensure its future longevity. The stable block needs some urgent maintenance and renovations to bring the rooms up to par, and the vital equipment that keeps the business running is in need of upgrading. We are fighting the elements during bad weather with leaking roofs and no heating, and the cost of repairing or replacing broken equipment is constant. The business also needs modernising to attract the next generation of musicians in this new age of technology.

What will we do with the money

With any funds raised, I plan to purchase new equipment such as guitar/bass amplifiers, microphones, drum kits and more.

I will also complete vital maintenance and renovation works to the rooms by upgrading the electrics and lighting, providing better ventilation and heating/cooling solutions and making the building sound so we can be here for another 30 years.

I will also invest in marketing and our online presence to grow the business and reach new customers.  I would also like to diversify my client bass by offering music tuition

What does the future look like

My vision for the future is to create an even bigger community of musicians by actively supporting and promoting local grassroots bands and artists, hosting live music events and proving a safe space for children who are aspiring musicians to have lessons and rehearse. I plan to have a bigger online presence including a blog to shine the spotlight on the musicians who use Rhona's and promote their work to a wider network. I want Rhona's to always maintain its laid back atmosphere and provide and cool place where everybody feels welcome.

Rhona's allowed my Mum to be her own boss, and be the best Mum possible. Now, I want the same for myself and my own children. Thank you so much for your support
