We want to establish a table tennis development League to increase participation by providing an accessible and supportive environment.
Kennet Vale Table Tennis Club has been operating for almost 50 years within Kennet Valley Hall, coaching Juniors during that time. During the last 5 years, we've gone through some incredible growth and have now outgrown the village hall.
Our local table tennis community has identified a significant gap between introductory participation and formal league competition. While there is strong interest in table tennis from beginners, returning players, older adults, families, and individuals seeking a new sporting activity, many are reluctant to join the existing league structure because they perceive the standard to be too high or feel they lack the confidence and experience required to compete.
As a result, many potential participants either stop playing after attending coaching sessions or continue to play socially without progressing into regular competitive activity. This represents a missed opportunity both for the individuals concerned and for the long-term sustainability of table tennis within our area.
We need to purchase at least 4 table tennis tables, surrounds, umpire tables, scoring machines, bats for beginners to use, coaching costs, hall hire costs, DBS checks for volunteers and training up 3 additional coaches to help grow the league.
The project supports wider community objectives by encouraging regular physical activity, improving mental well-being, reducing social isolation, and creating opportunities for people to build friendships and become involved in their local community.
Through structured coaching and regular competition, participants will develop confidence, resilience, and a sense of achievement while enjoying the social benefits of belonging to a sporting community.
There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.
1. Make a pledge. Don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success!
2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.
3. Offer rewards. Get involved if you are a local business by donating things we can offer to our supporters. We will give you a shout-out!
4. Fundraise for us. If you want to run your own fundraiser – maybe a sponsored activity or similar – use the 'contact project' button at the top of our page to let us know. Setting up your own page only takes a few minutes, and you won’t need any bank details. Just a fun idea!
