Sydenham Library is re-open to the public after being closed for most of July. During this time we installed new, environmentally friendly LED lights throughout, re-plastered and re-painted half of the library and improved the customer service area. It looks fantastic, but we ran short of enough funds to complete the works due to the damage we found to the fabric of the building once we started to strip off the old paintwork.
Sydenham Library is a classic Carnegie library on the edge of Home Park in Lower Sydenham, it has suffered from years of under-funding and neglect, but it is getting a new lease of life. The library is operated by a charity, and like many organisations we are facing unprecedented energy cost rises at a time when we have only just recovered from the Covid pandemic.
We get no income from Government and have to rely on funding and room hire to pay for all the staff and bills. Please consider helping us at this crucial time.
