Swimmers Headsets - Socially Distanced Coaching

Aim

We are raising money to improve our ability for our Coaches to communicate with our swimmers. We would like to make a positive improvement.

Our swimming club has a rich history and in 2020 we celebrated our 125th year, having been established since 1895.  We have helped literally tens of thousands of swimmers over those years to enjoy competitive swimming and achieve their goals, no matter what those goals may be.

Many swimmers of competing in County Champs, Regional Champs and National Championships too!  Some have even gone on to international recognition, with our most famous swimmer being Olympian and World Record swimmer Liam Tancock.  Liam grew up in Exeter and starting on his swimming journey with Exeter City Swimming Club and went on to swim for Great Britain at multiple European, Commonwealth and World Championships, winning numerous medals and even broke the 50m Backstroke World Record on more than one occasion.  He is also represented Great Britain at the 2008 Beijing and 2012 London Olympics.

We have always look to improve the swimming facilities, training and coaching that we provide our swimmers. We are an inclusive swimming club and we want to ensure that every single swimmer is given the absolute best chance to succeed.

Our vision is to purchase the latest communication technology which allows coaches to communicate with swimmers whilst they are swimming, given immediate and direct feedback on their technique, effort and provide them with words of encouragement.  This technology allows the coach to speak normally, without the need to shout in an already noisy and echoing environment of a swimming pool.  This is hugely beneficial to swimmers who require explanation, due to communication differences, hidden disabilities or other neurological-diversity issues. Many swimmers need extra explanation to understand a drill and everyone learns or responds in different ways. Some do not respond positively to raised voices, so this technology will provide this more effective way of communicate.  It is of benefit to the coaches as well, ensuring a calmer, more relaxed environment for them, which will keep stress levels to a minimum.

This technology costs £3000 to provide the club with 40 headsets and associated equipment. our club is a charity, run by volunteers and we are not for profit, so rely on kind donations and funding to continue to improve what we provide.
