Aim

The aim of the drama is to raise awareness of Liverpool 8History; and to celebrate the strength of white woman who lived in that community.

Nwoko Arts is producing "Sweet Mother", a play that will share stories about white woman who fell in love and married black men. At times the woman gave up their white privilege facing abuse and discrimination from their own communities.

The play will  be presented at the Royal Court Theatre Studio in Liverpool  on March 13th 14th 2020. It will tell the stories of four woman: their stories have been captured through a series of interviews over the last five years.

This is a multi disciplinary performance that  will comprise narrative, ac

apella singing, Film and music from the era.

Nwoko Arts has secured investment from Arts council England but we still need to raise more funding.

Nwoko arts seeks to raise £900 through this campaign.

Your contribution will ensure that we will be able to:

  • Deliver four workshops in schools celebrating culture and identity.
  •  Provide travel costs for the elders that contributed to the project ensuring they are able to attend the performance.
  • Provide expenses for one intern who will gain skills and experience in theatre production

Enable Nwoko Arts to perform extracts of the play (before the performance dates) in the Liverpool Caribbean Centre,

The company is named after my late father who came to the UK from Nigeria in the 1960s. The authorities could not pronounce "Nwoko", so changed his name to Paul.

Nwoko Arts is not for profit Community interests Company that engages diverse communities in the arts.
