To raise £25,000 to cover unexpected losses made in 2025 and thus allowing us to plan the 2026 Festival.
Our vision is to preserve the musical range and quality of Swanage Jazz Festival which, for 34 years, has brought over 1,000 top quality Jazz groups to Swanage and created many memorable Festivals. At the same time we want to keep the Festival affordable and to encourage a new younger generation of audiences (and artists).
But we have run into a bit of a financial problem. Festivals are risky affairs and whilst we made what we thought were sensible attendance projections, based on our 2024 attendance, this year we sold 150 fewer stroller tickets than budgeted. That has left us with a £15,000 loss. To make sure all artists and suppliers were paid in full, we have had to take out short term loans to cover the loss.
We need to repay those loans by Christmas. If we don’t it is very likely that the Festival will become insolvent and we will be unable to stage it in 2026, and quite possibly forever. It is extremely unusual for Funding bodies to pay off retrospective losses. So we are forced to turn to the audience that knows and loves the event. Though we would be thrilled to receive donations from people yet to discover the delights of our annual three day Festival.
We are seeking to raise £25,000. That might sound like a lot but it could be 500 people donating £50 each. This crowdfunding platform allows regular donations eg £25 a month for three months. So it might not be as hard as it sounds.
Since the current team took over Swanage Jazz Festival in 2019 we have brought, 300 bands and 1,669 musicians to the Festivals and their music has been enjoyed by over 41,500 people. Please help us continue.
Thank you!
