Aim

Three days a week we offer a safe and warm space for elderly people to socialise. Transport provided if needed . Time to make it four days.

Sutton Lodge Day Centre.

For over 50 years we have provided elderly people with a warm and friendly place to meet friends old and new. We provide the fun, as in bingo, quizes, day trips and sometimes live entertainment and also the necessary such as chair based exercises, hair dressing and chiropody.

Many of our members are no longer able to get out on their own and for these members we provide transport.

Community impact

If the only good we did was to put a smile on the faces of our members, what we do would be well worth doing but thats just the sharp end.

We practice what's called preventative care. Helping people keep active both mentally and physically we belive could help delay or even avoid the need for higher level care services.

Some of our members live with their partners or family who are their carers, these carers get some well deserved respite when their charges are at our day centre.

The vast majority of our staff are volunteers and we owe them so much gratitude but they also benefit from, meeting new friends, getting work experience to help find paid work and our volunteers with learning difficulties gaining self respect from being a useful part of the team.

Why are we crowdfunding?

Neither our charity nor our members are immune to the cost of living crisis but we can with help make things easier for our members. Days when our members are at the Day Centre they can save on heating bills and also having their main meal with us save on cooking costs.

With food and fuel inflation the way it is this is perhaps not the best time for expansion plans but we are rebuilding our membership after the Covid lockdown and the next stage is opening another day enabling us to offer our services to new members as well as more to our existing members.

We make a charge to our members for our services but when we first open a new day it will loose money until numbers increase. Normally we would use reserves for this but Covid had most of our reserves and the current cost of living crisis may use up the rest.

Any help you can give will greatly help us to not only keep doing what we are doing but also helping more vulnerable elderly people keep warm and have fun.

How we’ll spend the money raised

Paying the bills is boring so rather than list  the bills you could help us pay here is what we can do once we can pay the bills.

Some of our members are able to get on public transport and make their own way to our day centre, if we were not here they could go somewhere else. Weatherspoons are very cheap but perhaps not too our members taste. There are some lovely cafes in Sutton but they'de be on their own. So they come to our day centre were they know they will be welcomed, looked after and well fed. Other members some who live alone are not so able and they will wait at home in the chair the carer sat them in after helping them get up, till our volunteers arrive to help them onto our transport. Already they are with people and chatting and it gets better when they arrive at the day centre have a nice fresh cuppa and the activities commence. At the end of the day it's back to the same chair perhaps some telly or read a book then wait for the carer to make tea and help them to bed. Most of our members are between these two examples,  some live with family or partners who look after them so would not be alone all day but a few hours apart can give people a little respite and separate experiences to talk about in the evening even if its just "Guess what happened at the day centre today".

We have been doing this for over 50 years and we are going to do our best to keep doing this for another 50 years. Times are hard for us all but if you can spare a little cash it would be a great help and just so you know this is to get us started once running we hope to continue by making a small charge to members so we won't have to ask you for more next year.
