Aim

Sutton Befrienders needs £10k to keep 50 isolated older people connected as funding ends in March 2026. Help save this vital lifeline!

Help Save Sutton Befrienders — A Lifeline for Isolated Older People

For 60 years, Sutton Befrienders has provided friendship, connection and emotional support to some of the most isolated older residents in our community. Right now, too many vulnerable adults are facing crises alone. We are often the only ones there to keep them safe and help them cope — but we can’t do it without you. Many of the people we support are housebound, live alone, or are coping with long-term health conditions. For some, a weekly visit from a volunteer is the only human contact they have.

But now this vital service is at risk of closing. Our funding ends in March 2026, and without new financial support, we may be forced to begin planning an exit strategy in the new year. Running the full service requires vital long term funding, and although we continue to apply for grants, there are currently no confirmed funding opportunities in the pipeline.

Crowdfunding alone can’t sustain the entire project — but it can save the core of it. If we can raise £10,000, we can continue providing weekly visits to 40–50 of the most vulnerable, most isolated older people while we work to secure long-term funding. This will give us precious time to keep people connected rather than leaving them abruptly alone.

Your donation helps ensure that no one is left without the companionship, reassurance and human warmth that, for many, makes life bearable. Sutton Befrienders matches older residents with trained volunteers who offer emotional support, a listening ear and a dependable presence. The impact of befriending is deeply personal — restoring confidence, reducing loneliness, and giving people a sense of belonging again.

By supporting this campaign, you are helping protect a service that has been a cornerstone of our community for decades. You are helping neighbours who would otherwise face profound loneliness. And you are giving us the chance to rebuild a sustainable future for befriending in Sutton.

Please donate if you can, share our campaign, and help us keep this lifeline alive.
