Fifth and ongoing fundraiser for families surviving genocide, hand in hand with my friend Sabr. Cash, groceries, meals, solidarity and more.
Hi everyone! I met Sabr Zaaneen and his family in Gaza in 2008/9 when I managed to sail to Gaza on the Dignity boat as a coordinator with the Free Gaza Movement. We broke through the siege and along with other activists I was able to support people on the ground, volunteering with paramedics during Operation Cast Lead, accompanying farmers in the 'buffer zone' cultivating their ancestral land, fisherfolk withstanding IOF gunboat attacks, and neighbours organising to maintain solidarity, dignity and resistance to erasure and colonisation.

That resistance is a continuum from 1930s British mandate era uprisings until today which is rooted in relationship to the land, to one another as families and kin, to language, to cultural practices, heritage, ancient historical sites, traditional food, places of worship, education, art, literature, poetry, science - life in all its intergenerational dimensions.

At the time of writing, the ongoing genocide has claimed over 75,000 lives, with at least 10,000 people buried under destroyed buildings. Over 172,919 people have been injured, and 2700 families have been completely erased from Gaza's Civil Register. The vast majority of people in Gaza live in tents and temporary, bomb-damaged, insecure and overcrowded housing, deprived of clean water, medicine, health care, food, education, and infrastructure. Israeli Occupation Forces plan to re-occupy 70% of Gaza, concentrating nearly two million people into 30% of the Gaza Strip, an area 25 miles long and 3.5-7.5 miles wide. The plan is to force Palestinians out of their ancestral land and destroy Palestinian identity and dignity. It will never succeed.

This crowdfunder project, like so many organised by people with friends and family in Gaza, runs on a 100% people to people direct support model, with no middleman and it is entirely volunteer-run. The aim is to support the Sumud (steadfastness) of people to stay on their land, try to ease their suffering, and reinforce community power.

The project involves sending money to Sabr and family directly. This is then distributed to the families they live with. It also goes towards purchases and distributions of essential items such as: blankets, mattresses, eye glasses, kitchen equipment (cutlery, knives, cooking pots, coffee pots), children's clothing and sweets for Eid, hygiene products, bread, meals and fruits and vegetables. Sabr and family also provide psychosocial activities with children and do regular hot fortified pudding distributions.

The needs are ongoing, the situation is still catastrophic, in Deit al Balah School camp 150 families are living in tents and classrooms, trying to rebuild their lives, without income or earnings.
Children and young people are still studying although in rough conditions. People are still falling in love and getting married, having children, looking after one another, young and old, re-making lives and relationships with care and commitment on a daily basis.
Support this ongoing mutual aid and solidarity project, from London to Deir al Balah, from the UK and Poland to Palestine, hand in hand, reparations, return and liberation are the horizon! ✊🇵🇸❤️🔥
