Sustainable Fashion and natural Dyeing label

Aim

To run a sustainable fashion label in Yorkshire using only second hand and off cut materials - natural dyeing, hand crochet and knitting.

A few facts:
97% of clothing is made overseas.
Less than 1% of all materials in clothes are recycled into new garments.

The estimated cost to the UK economy of landfilling clothing and household textiles each year is approximately GBP 82 Million.

Around 350,000 tonnes of clothes, with an estimated value of £140 million, go to landfill every year in the UK.

Most people don't know where their clothes come from, who made it and how? How much water is used? How many chemicals are in the dye? How much pollution is created? How much waste is there? How many countries has these clothes passed through?

Currently sustainability is at an all time high. People are beginning to ask the questions above. They don't want to be kept in the dark about these issues.

Looking at these figures and having witnessed the fashion industry first hand I wanted to be involved in creating a kind, ethical, transparent brand that puts sustainability at the forefront of everything it does. By providing consumers with all of the information about where the fabric is from, where it's made and by whom, consumers are then informed enough to choose exactly what they want to invest in.

It's our goal to run a sustainable label using only second hand and off cut materials - natural dyeing and hand crochet and knit. Providing jobs and ongoing work to people in the community around me and keeping a small, ethical label. Currently our garments are made using second hand materials, end of roll fabrics, offcuts and waste material. Most are currently sourced from the South Yorkshire area. They are then dyed by hand using recycled rainwater and foraged, hand grown and natural materials like raspberries, black bean and turmeric to name a few. We then also hire members of the community who work as part of a knitting/ crochet group old and young,  to create our products and trims.

What we would like to do next:

With your help, we would like to continue to create this ethical clothing.

The focus is to create bigger dye baths for dyeing naturally. Invest into growing more of our natural ingredients and testing other natural materials aiming to create as little waste as possible.

Hiring more of the local communities and expanding our partnerships - creating a space where people can come together and work with us.

Again hiring local seamstresses and dyers aiming to create jobs around the Yorkshire area and continue this trade.

Provide the necessary training to involve others in this natural and ethical process - teaching the ways of natural dyeing.

Work with studios and shops to showcase the work that we do and create more interest around this area.
