When the BBC announced its withdrawal from Dumbarton Studios, I saw not an ending but an opportunity — to reimagine the studios as a sustainable, independent hub for film, television, and creative talent.

I’m Maureen Hascoet, founder of Firewalker Pictures Ltd, a Scottish production company built on a deep belief that storytelling is one of Scotland’s greatest sources of vitality & radiance - yet so often taken for granted and under appreciated.
That energy is at the heart of this project: to protect and renew a vital creative space for Scotland’s film community.
When I understood that the Dumbarton Studios site — home to decades of iconic Scottish productions — was under threat, I felt called to act.
This isn’t just about saving a building; it’s about nurturing a place where creativity can continue to thrive, where stories can be born, and where our collective life force as creatives can flourish.
Firewalker Pictures is working to secure the future of Dumbarton Studios as a sustainable, inclusive creative hub — a space for filmmakers, crews, writers, and innovators to collaborate and grow.
Right now, we’re raising £6,000 to fund a professional valuation of the site — the essential first step in the acquisition process. This will enable us to attract partners and investment to bring the studios fully back to life, keeping Scotland’s screen industry strong, independent, and inspired.
Thanks to an incredible team of business advisors and brokers, we have secured debt financing for the purchase and we are 85% of the way there.
We are so close - yet it’s a race against the clock now and we need to get it over the line before Christmas — every contribution helps us move closer to a future where creativity continues to light up Dumbarton & indeed Scotland.
