We are a surf club born from a need within my own family and we have grown organically and responded to the needs of our community, the passions of our coaches and the true nature of Aloha (love and spirit). We are female led and the first UK surf club founded by a woman of colour and we have been surfing with hundreds of women and girls from all backgrounds over the past 8 years.

Why are we crowdfunding? (Raising £15,000!)

£15K IS THE TARGET!!! (I’ve been unable to edit it!)

We are raising funds to support the purchase of a fully stocked, double fronted trailer. The trailer contains a variety of boards including hard top boards and stand up paddleboards as well as bodyboards. This will enable us to support women and girls on their surfing journey and help them progress their surfing experience. It will also mean we have lots of options of how we engage with the ocean.
the trailer will support the ability for us to travel to other venues and run bespoke sessions in other areas, so reaching an even wider community. We will also have our own event venue so we can run more community events including our inclusive and progressive Wahines Summer Slide.

We are really keen to create a pathway for the communities that surf with us to enable the sustainable progress of their ocean journey and the trailer will help us realise that dream.

We want to ensure we have the trailer fully branded and able to offer free surf sessions at regular intervals to the community and further afield. We would like to be able to support the participation of communities that are underrepresented in surfing from an intersectional perspective.

How we’ll spend the money raised

We will spend the funds on the trailer which includes over 40 various boards and is fully equipped to be a mobile event space.

Any additional funds will go into enabling an initial progress pilot session for a group of our current girls aged 10-12 for a free program of delivery. We will then support a new surf program with our Syrian Surf Club and the continued program of delivery and this will enable the introduction of new sessions for even more communities.

We will be able to support some of our participants gain coaching qualifications to enable future employment within the surfing sector so increasing female representation within the coaching environment. We want to support the women and girls who surf with us now and who will join in the future to have a pathway to a space that they feel comfortable in and be able to financially support their progress and passion so they are not restricted by the elite nature of this sport.

Community impact

Over the past 8 years we have surfed with 100s of women and girls across thousands of sessions.
we have run 3 years of surfing with displaced girls from Syria, two years providing surf therapy to women living in refuge after leaving domestic abuse situations. Some of the women on these sessions provided feedback including, returning your voice and we were saving lives.

The girls we surf with regularly have grown in confidence both in and out of the water. We are so very proud to have been able to fund some girls through their surf coaching qualifications and even skateboarding qualifications to help us provide a wider service and enable those to have skills to take them into employment.

We have encouraged many women and girls to try contest surfing by creating an inclusive environment in the UKs first female focused surf contest which is now in its 4th year.
