Sure STEPS: Supporting Parents

Aim

Our volunteer matching scheme provides isolated parents with practical and emotional support through the challenges of parenthood.

How Sure STEPS works:

We believe that parents have the strength and ability to overcome the challenges they face. We make sure there is someone by their side until they believe that too. 

Our volunteer matching scheme provides parents who are isolated with practical and emotional support.

£5,000 will allow us to recruit, train and support a new cohort of 8-10 volunteers who will go on to mentor approximately 15 parents for at least six months.  

Parenthood can be a lonely and demanding time, even for those who have support systems. But for those without, the challenges of parenting can be amplified and become even more overwhelming.

Sure STEPS has created a much-loved and much-needed community of parents in Tower Hamlets.  

Not only does it provide allies for parents who otherwise have no-one to turn to, it creates opportunities for local volunteers to share their time and experiences with people who really value it.

Many of our volunteers have faced their own challenges in life and in parenthood, such as domestic abuse, mental health difficulties, loneliness and isolation. This project allows them to channel their experiences into supporting others and proving that it is possible to overcome negative events and circumstances so that they do not define you.

Our volunteers encourage parents to believe in their own strength, help them to plan for a more positive future, and are a constant reminder that there is always hope.
