The Promise Foundation deploys the resources of the local community to provide disadvantaged young people with one-to-one mentoring relationships that help unlock their potential, and provide support at a time in their lives when the decisions they take have long-term effects on their future. Central to everything we do is our commitment to social mobility and our belief that this should be a collective responsibility.
By providing mentoring, advice and training to young people from underprivileged backgrounds, we strive to tackle educational disadvantage, and undo often experienced and mythical barriers to education, as a result of many having parents who did not experience higher education, or an opportunity/ability to interact with people from different socio-economic backgrounds. The young people we serve are therefore often held back due to circumstances and not their ability.
We've been running this project successfully for over 10 years and we've had wonderful success stories. We've seen teenagers flourish and find their way into top ranked universities and fantastic careers. Sometimes these success stories change the destiny of their entire families.
However, funding for small charities/projects such as ours is getting harder and harder. We are a small charity that is relatively inexpensive to run. We're looking to raise £20,000 to keep us going for the next year. We hope you can help.
