Supporting the school to recoup some of the financial loss incurred after postponing the Year 6 residential trip to London.
I am running this fundraiser as both a school governor of Pennycross Primary School, and a local councillor for the area which covers the school.
This week, the Year 6's at Pennycross Primary School were looking forward to their residential trip to London - a really exciting couple of days seeing the sights of our capital and experiencing new things together.
Unfortunately, the trip had to be postponed due to the red weather warning put in place. Following direct advice from Plymouth City Council’s Health, Safety and Wellbeing Team (which is informed by national guidance from the DfE, UKHSA and HSE, the school took the decision not to proceed.
This was clearly the right decision in the interests of the wellbeing of the children attending.
The school have worked hard to make arrangements for an alternative trip next month instead, facilitated by the staff team making themselves available at the start of the summer holidays to make the trip possible and ensure that the children do not miss out on the experiences they have been looking forward to.
Unfortunately, although the rearranging of the trip has been possible, some elements of the trip (including accommodation for 60 children) have not been able to be deferred at no cost and this has meant quite a substantial financial cost to the school. Due to some of the facilities remaining open, there is no ability to claim on insurance and the school will have to pay twice.
No extra costs will be passed onto parents and carers for this trip, which is the right thing to do. However, the financial cost to the school is quite a substantial one and I know that many families, and others in the community, will want to support the school to ensure they are not significantly out of pocket for prioritising the welfare of the children.
Therefore, any contributions from local people, organisations and businesses would be hugely appreciated to recoup some of this loss.
Any and all funds raised from this fundraiser will go to the school.
It is also worth noting that there has been some incredible generosity already, which have meant the children being able to attend Annie at the Theatre Royal and enjoy some time at Tinside Lido where they have not been able to go to London this week. These gestures are hugely appreciated!
